Out with the old, in with the new.
This 2019 season we have big plans for White Eagle Golf Club, a course renovation has come into full swing starting with the driving range.
The reason for a new range tee was to offer better turf for members and guests to enjoy during the golf season. Maintaining a healthy range tee with good turf coverage for an entire season was not plausible due to improper irrigation spacing, poor drainage, and improper leveling of the tee.After the sod was cut and stripped away, the irrigation lines were moved for proper spacing between irrigation heads which will allow for a more even watering pattern at night. After that we installed a french drain in front of the artificial strip to prevent water from building up in that area. It was connected to the already existing lines to create an additional exit point for the water to drain. Then, they went through and graded the entire tee at 2% to allow for proper water run off, in the event of a major rainfall.
We sodded the tee with Barenbrug HGT low mow bluegrass.
(HGT stands for Healthy Grass Technology)
Barenbrug's HGT has undergone extensive testing, and proven that it is some of the best turf available. From it's high traffic resistance, and rapid recovery from traffic damage. To it's outstanding disease resistance, especially to summer patch and stem rust. It was the best option for our 30,000 sqft range tee. Other courses such as Bob O'Link, Ruth Lake, and Mist Wood have also used HGT in renovations.
The existing synthetic strip was removed and we replaced it with a new strip.We also added a layer of padding underneath, to help it withstand continued use and make it easier for using tees.
